Michigan Medicaid/CHIP Coverage

In the state of Michigan, 2,875,736 residents were enrolled in Medicaid/CHIP coverage at the start of 2022, demonstrating an increase in enrollment rates of 50.40% since the Marketplace Open Enrollment Period of October 2013.1 Although the figures are on the rise, the number of Michiganders eligible for Medicaid and CHIP do not match the number of those enrolled in these programs.1 To promote enrollment for those eligible, and to promote Medicaid and CHIP coverage, Michigan has adopted one or more of CMS’s promotional strategies, hoping to pull more enrollees to these programs.1 With Michigan’s adoption of these programs, agents working with eligible populations in Michigan might see an increase in their business as residents begin seeking guidance and direction from licensed insurance agents.1

Michiganders receiving their health insurance coverage through these programs would likely benefit from working with an agent whose expertise they can trust to navigate the health care system and find a level of care they’d like to receive. According to a voluntary 2020 self-report, the care offered through the state’s Medicaid coverage meets 21 of 27 CMS quality of care measures.1 Michigan’s residents offer a promising number of prospects for an agent motivated to establish loyal connections with clients, helping them access more satisfying care.
