CMS proposes 5 new SEPs for Medicare coverage
With additional SEPs come additional opportunities for agent growth. Understand the potential changes to keep your business thriving.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services seeks to expand coverage and create five new special enrollment periods for Medicare-eligible consumers beginning in 2023.1 The proposed special enrollment periods would remove barriers to Medicare Part B enrollment and make receiving coverage more accessible for individuals who fall into the following categories:1
Those who were affected by a government-declared emergency or disaster that prevented their enrollment during another enrollment period
Those who were given inaccurate information about enrollment by either their health plan or their employer, preventing their enrollment during another enrollment period, and can provide documentation as evidence
Those who were formerly incarcerated and could not enroll during another enrollment period due to incarceration
Those eligible for Medicare with soon-to-be terminated Medicaid coverage
Those experiencing other conditions that prevent their enrollment during another enrollment period, evaluated on a case-by-case basis
Additionally, Medicare Part D recipients will be able to use these special enrollment periods to make changes to their coverage.1
